Description

If you look for the trekking from Punta Arenas enter here.

Embark on a trekking adventure in Torres del Paine from Puerto Natales and reach the world-famous Base Torres viewpoint, one of the most iconic spots in the National Park.

After a 2-hour drive, you’ll begin the hike at Estancia Torres del Paine. Following a short briefing from the guide, you’ll cross the old bridge over the Asencio River. About an hour into the trek, you’ll arrive at El Chileno Campsite, surrounded by lenga forests and streams flowing down from Mount Almirante Nieto.

After a short break, you’ll continue to an intermediate lookout point at 700 m above sea level. From here, the trail becomes steeper. About 30 minutes later, you’ll reach the Base Torres, facing the lagoon that offers breathtaking views of the three towers: Central, Monzino, and Dagostini, along with the Peineta and Nido de Cóndores peaks, weather permitting.

After enjoying the view and some rest, you’ll hike back along the same trail to the starting point, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Natales.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The activity is available year-round. While summer (December to March) brings a higher chance of clear skies, Patagonian weather, its mix of clouds, rain, and wind, can occur at any time of year. For that reason, we recommend coming prepared and set for all kinds of weather, including the possibility of not seeing the Torres del Paine if they’re covered.

  • No. Under typical local conditions such as rain, snow, or cloud cover, the activity operates as normal. Only in extreme situations that could compromise visitor safety (such as whiteout conditions, heavy snow accumulation, or strong gusts), or due to force majeure (such as road closures or strikes), might the activity be suspended. These situations are very rare and usually happen only once or twice a year.

  • The difficulty level of this trek is high. The total distance that you will have to walk is 20 kilometers in a round trip tour. The total duration of the trek is 8 hours, always subject to the physical conditions of the group and the weather conditions. The total height of the track is 680 meters, between the 170 meters above sea level from the beginning point of the hike, and the 850 meters above sea level of the Base Las Torres Viewpoint, having a lot of ascents and descents.
  • The Torres del Paine Full Day is a panoramic tour suitable for all travelers. It includes a visit to the Cueva del Milodón Natural Monument and the most iconic viewpoints within Torres del Paine National Park. In contrast, the Base of Torres del Paine Hike is a demanding tour of approximately 8 hours round trip that reaches the Base of Torres viewpoint, located directly in front of the three iconic granite towers. Both experiences are different and complementary. While the Full Day tour allows you to explore the park in a comfortable and scenic way, the Base of Torres del Paine Hike involves a significant physical challenge, so an excellent fitness level and previous trekking experience are required.
