Description
We’ll leave Puerto Natales and head to Pudeto to board the catamaran to Paine Grande Refuge. From here begins the iconic French Valley Trek, one of the highlights of the W Circuit in Torres del Paine.
The trail runs along the north shore of Lake Pehoé, with emerald waters and breathtaking views of the Cuernos del Paine. As the path gets steeper, you’ll pass the Lake Skottsberg and enjoy views of the Paine Massif, before reaching the Italian Camp, gateway to the valley.
You’ll continue for 1.5 hours to the French Viewpoint, where you’ll admire the peaks Hoja, Espada, and Fortaleza, as well as Nordenskjöld, Pehoé, and Toro lakes. After taking in these amazing landscapes, you’ll hike back to Paine Grande, completing nearly 20 km of trekking, then return by catamaran to Pudeto and back to Puerto Natales.

This trek requires a high level of physical fitness. The total distance is 20 km (12.4 mi) round trip. The trek takes approximately 10 hours in total, always depending on the group’s physical condition and weather conditions. The route has an elevation gain of approximately 500 m (1,640 ft), ranging from 50 m (164 ft) above sea level in the Paine Grande area to 550 m (1,804 ft) above sea level at the French Lookout Point. The trail includes several uphill and downhill sections.
The Lake Pehoé catamaran costs CLP$ 58.800 round trip (2 legs) per person. Tickets must be purchased online at catamaranpehoe.com as far in advance as possible once your booking has been confirmed. When purchasing the tickets, you must select only the following departure times: outbound (Pudeto → Paine Grande) at 8:00 AM and return (Paine Grande → Pudeto) at 6:40 PM.

The entrance fee for Torres del Paine National Park must necessarily be bought not later than the day before the excursion, in https://www.pasesparques.cl/en. At the moment of the pickup, the guide will ask for the entrance fees to all passengers, including children and adults over the age of 60. If one of them does not have the tickets, he or she will not be able to make the tour and there will be no refund.
The entrance fee is valid for 3 consecutive days, so you can re-enter without paying again, as long as you pass for one of the entrances so valid your ticket.
