Description
We’ll depart San Pedro de Atacama and take the northwest route toward Death Valley. At the turnoff, you’ll switch to a 4x4 to enter the desert and reach the ideal dunes for sandboarding.
At the base of the dunes, we’ll provide all the required gear and give you safety and technique instructions. You’ll start with practice runs on around 40 m slopes to build confidence. Those who feel ready can try a descent of up to 200 m, a fast, exciting ride with panoramic views of the Salt Mountain Range and the desert.
To finish, take a about 30-minute walk back to the vehicle and begin the return to San Pedro de Atacama, where the activity ends.
Important notes
- After each descent, you’ll hike back up the dune carrying your board; good physical condition is required.
- If Death Valley is closed due to weather or other reasons, the activity moves to an alternate dune in the Salt Mountain Range or in the Vallecito Area.
- Pick-up and drop-off not available for lodgings outside the urban area, in nearby ayllus (Quitor, Yaye, Checar, Sequitor, Solor, Coyo), or in Toconao.
