Description

The Andean Altiplano unfolds as you cross from Chile into Bolivia through Ollagüe, one of the highest border crossings in South America. Whether you depart from San Pedro de Atacama or Calama (accommodation or airport), the landscape gradually transforms from desert to high-altitude plains before reaching Uyuni, the gateway to the world's largest salt flat. A transfer that makes the journey part of the adventure.


The service operates with two vehicles: one on the Chilean side and another on the Bolivian side, with a vehicle change at the border crossing. The route is direct, with no lunch stop, to minimize total travel time. If you're planning to visit the Uyuni Salt Flats and return, you can book a round-trip transfer.

Important notes


  • The available departure time from both San Pedro de Atacama and Calama is 7:00 AM.
  • When you book the transfer from San Pedro de Atacama, you pay a deposit online. The remaining balance must be paid in cash (USD) in San Pedro de Atacama by 2:00 PM on the day before the tour.
  • When you book the transfer from Calama, full payment is required at the time of booking through the checkout.
  • No visits to attractions or entry to the Uyuni Salt Flats. For sightseeing, see our Uyuni tours.
  • Pick-up service in San Pedro de Atacama not available for lodgings outside the urban area, in ayllus (Quitor, Yaye, Checar, Sequitor, Solor, Coyo) or in Toconao.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each passenger may carry at most one bag or suitcase of 15 kilos and one sleeping bag, which will go above the 4x4. Because they will be outside the vehicle, it is recommended to take a bag rather than a suitcase, as suitcases are fragile and could be exposed to potential damage. If you do choose to bring a suitcase, it must a maximum size of a cabin suitcase (55 x 40 x 20 cm).

  • Depending on the nationality of the passenger. Passengers from Chile and the rest of South America, and passengers from Western Europe do not need tourist visa, while passenger that come from United States, Central America, Asia, and Africa do need tourist visa that costs U$ 160. This visa is obtained directly in the border, where along with the payment of the visa in cash, you need to present your passport and other documents. In case you are a foreign person resident in Chile, besides your passport, you need your ID card with you so you can prove your residence with the police authorities in customs.
