What to bring:
Explore the Salar de Atacama, Chile’s largest salt flat, by visiting its most emblematic lagoons. You’ll start at Cejar Lagoon and Laguna Piedra, where the vegetation highlights the water’s turquoise tones and the volcanoes on the horizon. At Laguna Piedra, you’ll enjoy a floating swim thanks to the high salinity, an experience similar to the Dead Sea. The area has changing rooms and showers so you can rinse off and change comfortably.
Then you’ll continue to the Ojos del Salar, two deep freshwater pools in the middle of the desert, perfect for photos. You’ll finish at Laguna Tebinquinche, walking an easy trail to take in the striking contrast between the sky, the desert, and the white salt crust, a perfect finale for your Atacama photo collection.
Important notes
You can choose between the following options:
Group tour
Private tour
Swimming is only allowed in Piedra Lagoon.
Both tours visit lagoons in the Atacama Salt Flat where you can float thanks to the high salt concentration, but they take place in different areas. The Cejar Lagoon tour includes Cejar and Piedra lagoons, with swimming allowed only in Piedra Lagoon. It also offers better facilities, such as showers, making it a more comfortable experience. In contrast, the Baltinache Hidden Lagoons tour visits a group of seven lagoons with an intense turquoise color, where only one is open for swimming. Facilities are more limited, offering a more rustic experience. Both tours are complementary. If you prefer to do just one, choose Cejar if you’re looking for more comfort, or Baltinache if you prefer a more unique and photogenic landscape.
The maximum altitude reached is similar to the one in San Pedro de Atacama (2450 m), so you do not need a previous acclimation.
The tour is made every day of the year, except on Tuesdays because the park is closed for maintenance.
The vehicle will depend on the size of the group, having a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (or similar) for 12 to 18 people.
