Descripción

We’ll depart from San Pedro de Atacama toward Punta del Inca, the starting point of the Cascades & Cactus Trek (4 km). The first stop is the Vilama River gorge, the main water source for the San Pedro de Atacama oasis.


You’ll then walk along the north and south slopes of the Cactus Valley, where you can spot wildlife and learn about these ancient cacti with 30–40 million years of evolutionary history. During the hike you’ll reach 3,000 m (9,842.5 ft.), a good altitude to notice how your body adapts.


There will be time to swim in the waterfalls and refresh before returning to the vehicle and heading back to San Pedro de Atacama, where the tour ends.


Important notes


  • Wear your swimsuit from the departure in San Pedro de Atacama, because there are no changing facilities.
  • If combining with the Astronomy Tour the same day, allow at least 45 minutes between tours.
  • Pick-up and drop-off not available for lodgings outside the urban area, nearby ayllus (Quitor, Yaye, Checar, Sequitor, Solor, Coyo), or Toconao.
