Description

Embark on an unforgettable journey from Iquique, discovering the history and traditions of northern Chile. Your first stop will be at the Humberstone and Santa Laura saltpeter offices, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll learn about the golden age of nitrate or “white gold” as you walk through historic buildings and industrial plants.

The trip continues across the impressive Pampa del Tamarugal until reaching the oasis of Pica, home to the Church of San Andrés. Later, we’ll visit the nearby oasis of Matilla, famous for its 18th-century Spanish wine press and the Church of San Antonio with its distinctive bell tower.

On the return journey, you’ll pass through Pozo Almonte and stop at the Sanctuary of La Tirana, the setting of the most important religious festival in northern Chile. To end the day, you’ll have time to relax at Cocha Resbaladero, the perfect spot to enjoy its thermal waters before heading back to Iquique.
