What to bring:
Your Blue Safari (Family) begins with a 20-minute boat ride across Rico Lake, leaving the Patagonian forest behind as you approach the southern shore of Perito Moreno Glacier. From there, you'll start hiking toward the ice. With every step, the glacier grows larger, bluer, and louder as massive ice blocks crack and echoes roll across the water and surrounding cliffs. Standing just a few feet from the glacier, you'll discover brilliant shades of white and blue and intricate ice formations that simply can't be appreciated from the viewing walkways.
The guided hike lasts about 1.5 hours and follows a 1.5 km (0.9 mi) trail with sand, rocks, uneven terrain, and several stairways, always with spectacular glacier views. The hike is considered moderately easy and doesn't require technical experience, but sturdy footwear and good mobility are essential due to the uneven ground. The excursion operates year-round from Bajo de las Sombras Port, inside Los Glaciares National Park, and is only canceled if weather conditions affect safety.
If you've booked transportation from El Calafate, after the return navigation along the glacier's southern face, you'll board your transfer back with a 2-hour stop at the glacier walkways, giving you the chance to admire the Perito Moreno Glacier from different viewpoints. If you're traveling independently, you may either visit the walkways on your own or return to El Calafate after the navigation ends at Bajo de las Sombras Port.
The glacier changes every single day, making every visit unique. Book your Blue Safari and enjoy the closest experience to Perito Moreno Glacier, far beyond what the walkways alone can offer.
