What to bring:
We will leave Ushuaia to the entrance of the Andorra Valley, where you will begin the Vinciguerra Glacier Trek. You will enter the Tierra del Fuego forest, where you will be able to appreciate the flora of the place. It will be an uphill walk to the point where there is no more vegetation, transforming the activity into a high mountain trek. This last part is a hike up a steep slope, so it is important to have the necessary training. The reward is the view of the Los Témpanos Lake and the Vinciguerra Glacier. If the weather conditions allow it, you can continue along the lake to get closer to the glacier. In any case, you can rest there and take photos, before starting the return trip and completing the total 12 km hike.
The trek is moderate to challenging. It includes steady climbs, river crossings, muddy sections, and a final ascent with 600 meters of elevation gain to the lagoon and glacier.
Yes, prior experience with long hikes on uneven terrain is highly recommended. This trek is not suitable for sedentary people or those who lack regular physical activity.
Both are demanding, but the Ojo del Albino is more technical and longer (14 km, including climbing). The Vinciguerra is less technically demanding, but still physically demanding.
