Descripción

We’ll leave Puerto Natales before dawn and head to Torres del Paine National Park. The Puma Search starts pre-sunrise and combines vehicle scouting with short walks on authorized paths to keep our impact on the park’s biodiversity to a minimum.

With your tracking guide, you’ll learn ID and tracking techniques, prints, behavior, and hotspots where pumas are often seen hunting or resting. Remember, pumas are wild and free-roaming, so sightings can’t be guaranteed, though your chances improve thanks to the methods we’ll use throughout the activity.

Beyond puma tracking, enjoy classic Patagonian landscapes, diverse wildlife, and plenty of photo opportunities. Each day ends back in Puerto Natales to rest, returning to the park the next day if you select the 2- or 3-day program.

Important notes

  • Choose 2 or 3 days to increase your chances of seeing and photographing pumas.
  • The tour starts before sunrise and returns in the afternoon. Exact times are confirmed 1 day prior.
  • The activity is mixed (vehicle + short walks) on authorized areas within the park.
  • We practice responsible wildlife viewing at a distance; no feeding or chasing animals.
  • It is an easy–moderate activity, suitable for travelers with basic fitness.
  • Sightings are high likelihood, but never 100% guaranteed in nature.

Tour Location and Pickup Points

The tour takes place in the eastern sector of Torres del Paine National Park, where puma presence is highest and conditions are best for sightings. Because the activity begins before dawn, when the chances of seeing them in their natural habitat increase, pickups are offered only in Puerto Natales and at hotels in the park’s eastern sector and nearby (such as Hotel Las Torres, Hotel El Ovejero, Hotel Tierra Patagonia, and EcoCamp Patagonia, among others), as only from these points is it possible to arrive in time for the sightings. For this reason, we do not provide pickups at hotels in the park’s western sector (such as Hotel Lago Grey, Villa Río Serrano, or Hostería Pehoé, among others).

  • While puma sightings can’t be guaranteed year-round, chances are higher from March to November because there are fewer daylight hours, lower temperatures, and fewer visitors in Torres del Paine National Park, conditions in which this big cat feels more comfortable and is slightly more likely to be seen.
