What to bring:
Rapa Nui’s northwest coast reveals a side of the island that most visitors never see. Towering volcanic cliffs plunge into the Pacific Ocean as the Rapa Nui Cave’s Trek trail leads you through landscapes shaped by ancient lava flows and into caves carved by volcanic activity over thousands of years. You can choose between two routes: the short trek visits Ana Kakenga and Ana Te Pahu, while the longer option continues to Ana Te Pora and Ahu Te Peu, adding ceremonial sites and the remains of some of the island’s earliest settlements.
Ana Kakenga, also known as the Cave of Two Windows, features two natural openings overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Ana Te Pahu is an extensive lava tube where protected native vegetation still thrives. The longer route also includes Ana Te Pora and the archaeological complex of Ahu Te Peu before returning through the inland area of Roiho, where you'll meet your vehicle back to Hanga Roa. Both hikes are easy, led by a local guide throughout the experience, and require no previous hiking experience.
Rapa Nui offers much more than its famous moai. Discover the island through its caves, rugged coastline, and early history. Choose the route that best matches your pace and reserve your spot to explore one of the island's most secluded landscapes.
The entrance fee for Rapa Nui National Park must necessarily be bought not later than the day before the excursion, in https://www.rapanuinationalpark.com/. At the moment of the pickup, the guide will ask for the entrance fees to all passengers, including children and adults over the age of 60. If one of them does not have the tickets, he or she will not be able to make the tour and there will be no refund.
