Your 4x4 Through Argentine Patagonia starts with the journey from El Calafate, heading into one of the least-visited corners of southern Patagonia. As the town fades behind you, your guide brings the landscape to life: geology, steppe flora, and native wildlife. Along the way, you'll visit ancient Tehuelche chenques, burial sites left by the indigenous peoples who once inhabited this land, and fossilized oyster reefs that prove this terrain once lay beneath the sea, millions of years ago. From the overlooks, the Verlika and Baguales mountain ranges mark the border with Chile.
The tour runs from November through April and works for a range of fitness levels. Everything is included: round-trip transfers, a specialist guide, and lunch or dinner with drinks at Estancia 25 de Mayo, located 2,600 feet above sea level. What sets this apart from other El Calafate excursions isn't just the scenery, it's the range of content packed into a single day: indigenous history, deep-time geology, and wildlife, with no need to book multiple tours.
