We will gather at the meeting point to begin this tour along the iconic wall. Our Berlin Wall Bike Tour is a guided bike ride along the remains of the Berlin Wall, a symbol of the global struggle between communism and capitalism during the Cold War. On the tour, you will see many important sites in the history of the Wall, including the bridge where the first checkpoint fell in Bornholmer Strasse in 1989, the Berlin Wall memorial, the government district, and even Checkpoint Charlie, the site of a dangerous clash between Russian and American tanks in 1961 and the well-known scene of several escapes from East Berlin. You will be able to see one of the Wall’s few remaining watchtowers, the “death strip,” and hidden sections of the infamous “Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart,” as it was called in the communist East. You will also see places like Mauerpark, where former parts of the Berlin Wall and its “no man’s land” have been redeveloped into vibrant hubs of the city’s cultural and social life.
