We will pick you up at your hotel in Antofagasta to start this tour into the desert, where the remains of the nitrate boom era are still preserved.
You will first visit the Baquedano Railway Station, inaugurated in 1910 and key to the nitrate transport system in the region. You will explore its facilities, including locomotives and wagons that remain as silent witnesses of northern Chile’s mining past.
Next, you will head to the Chacabuco Nitrate Office, once the largest of its kind and now declared a National Monument, where you will learn how pampino workers lived and worked in the early 20th century. Walking among its ruins, you will understand the importance of this industry for Chile’s development.
Finally, we will return to Antofagasta, closing a tour that combines history, cultural heritage, and the legacy of Chile’s golden age of nitrate.
