We will meet at our meeting point to begin this unique historical experience, just next to the Doge’s Palace. On the Palazzo delle Prigioni Guided Tour, you will learn about the Lords of the Night and the role they played during the Venetian Republic. You will visit the prison and its cells featuring life-size figures of the Lords of the Night, as well as the prisoners, judges, and lawyers who roamed these halls. The prison dates back to the year 1500 and is one of the oldest in Europe. As you explore the cells and listen to the stories told by the guide, you can also see authentic graffiti from the prisoners of that era. You will also hear the story of Giacomo Casanova’s escape from the building.
