From Puerto Varas, travel along the shores of Lake Llanquihue toward Ensenada and Laguna Verde. As the journey unfolds, native forests gradually give way to volcanic terrain, while the snow-capped cone of Osorno Volcano dominates the horizon. Climb through scenic viewpoints overlooking the lake until reaching the mountain refuge at 2,652 meters (8,701 feet) above sea level. Weather permitting, you may continue on foot toward the Red Crater, a 1-hour hike across volcanic landscapes and open skies rarely experienced on other excursions in the region.
In the afternoon, the scenery changes completely at Petrohué Falls. Follow short trails through lush vegetation while watching the powerful Petrohué River carve its way through black basalt formations. The day concludes at Todos los Santos Lake, known for its emerald-green waters and optional boat rides.
This 11-hour excursion combines three distinct environments: volcano, river, and lake, into a seamless itinerary with carefully planned stops in La Poza and Ensenada. Every stage of the journey is designed to maximize your time in nature and immerse you gradually in the landscape. Osorno Volcano is one of the most iconic landmarks at the gateway to Chilean Patagonia. Seeing it rise above the surrounding lakes from the upper viewpoints is one of those travel moments that stays with you long after the trip ends.
More than just a backdrop, Osorno Volcano is the centerpiece of a full-day adventure that combines mountain scenery, rushing rivers, and pristine lakes. Availability is limited due to tour logistics, so we recommend booking in advance.
