What to bring:
Embark on the Grey Glacier Navigation and explore one of the most iconic areas of Torres del Paine National Park from a unique vantage point: Grey Lake. As we cruise among deep-blue icebergs, the landscape opens to reveal the Paine Massif in all its grandeur and the unmistakable silhouettes of the Cuernos del Paine, shifting color with Patagonian light and clouds. The voyage approaches the walls of Grey Glacier safely, where you can admire its hues, crevasses, and possibly calving, and feel the vastness of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
Beyond the glacier, the journey showcases the park’s geography and wildlife: pebble-gray beaches, lenga and coihue forests reaching the shore, and the chance to spot Andean birds and even condors in flight. Every stretch offers a different natural lookout: from the lake’s waters you’ll capture scenes you won’t find on the trails.

You can reach Hotel Lago Grey with three options: private vehicle, shared shuttle or regular bus.
You can arrange every option the next way:
In case of the only navigation available during winter, with departure between 10:00 am and 1:45 pm, available between May and August, you can arrive on a private vehicle or in a shared shuttle.
Yes, you can leave your vehicle free of charge in the Hotel Lago Grey parking lot. If it’s full, you can also park for free in the Pingo area parking lot, located about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
You have to make a 30 to 60-minute walk (depending on the level of water in the lake) with no slope, from the Hotel Lago Grey to the boarding location on the shores of the lake.
The navigation is done on a catamaran with capacity for 98 passengers. On board, you’ll find a heated indoor lounge to stay out of the wind and cold, with comfortable seats, tables, and restrooms. There’s also a small café where you can buy snacks and drinks during the ride.
It’s a stable vessel designed so you can enjoy the scenery without getting cold. If the weather cooperates, you can step outside: you can visit the main deck and the upper deck, accessed via stairs; if not, you’ll still have amazing views from the lounge.
The Grey Glacier navigation takes place within Torres del Paine National Park and allows you to sail close to the glacier’s massive front wall. It focuses on observing the ice up close and the floating ice formations on the lake. On the other hand, the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers navigation departs from Puerto Natales and travels through the Última Esperanza Fjord, where you can see waterfalls and wildlife such as sea lions and cormorants. The journey continues to Bernardo O’Higgins National Park to admire the Balmaceda Glacier (from the boat) and Serrano Glacier (with a short walk), which are smaller but very scenic. Both navigations are different and complementary experiences, and most travelers choose to do both. If you prefer to do only one, choose Grey if you want to see a massive glacier up close, or Balmaceda & Serrano if you’re looking for a journey with more varied landscapes and local wildlife.
