1. Bab Bou Jeloud, the Blue Gate<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The always impressive Islamic architecture is reflected in the Blue Gate (Bab Bou Jeloud) through three horseshoe arches and the characteristic blue, widely used in this art.<\/p>\n\n

Once you cross it, you are inside the medina of Fez El-Bali, founded in the eighth century A.D., surrounded by more than 15 kilometers of walls and with 9000 alleys, many of them dead-end.<\/p>\n\n

2. Bou Inania Madrasa<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

One of the curiosities of the Bou Inania madrasa is that inside it there is a mosque with its corresponding minaret, something very uncommon. For this reason, tourists who come to this madrasa can only access the central courtyard, since the rest continues to function as a mosque and is reserved for believers. <\/p>\n\n

3. Nejjarine Museum of Wood Art and Crafts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

This multi-storey building was built in the 18th century to house and feed merchants who came to Fez to sell luxury goods. Later it became a police station and currently functions as the museum of wood art and crafts. <\/p>\n\n

4. Chouwara Tannery<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The tannery is the place where hides are tanned and worked. To do this, in the Chouwar tannery, the largest in the city, natural dyes mixed with pigeon excrement are used to tan and give color to camel or lamb skins. The attraction of this place is that its pools of different colors create one of the most photogenic images of the city. <\/p>\n\n

5. Mausoleum of Mulay Idr\u00eds II<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The mausoleum of Mulay Idr\u00eds II is a sanctuary in which the remains of the king who ruled from 807 to 828, during the Idrisid dynasty, are preserved. As it is a holy place, non-Muslims cannot access it, but I recommend that you get close to its surroundings, to be able to take a look at this incredible construction. <\/p>\n\n

6. Qarawiyyin University<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Did you know that the oldest university in the world is in Fes? Not only that, it was also founded in 859 originally by two Tunisian women, when women did not have the right to study. Over the years it became a university and today you can study careers such as natural sciences, mathematics or foreign languages here. <\/p>\n\n

7. Seffarine Square<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The protagonists of this place are the boilermakers, who work with copper to shape teapots, trays and other containers. Seffarine is one of those places to simply stop and enjoy and understand the workings of this unique city. <\/p>\n\n
